I’ve been thinking for a while that there isn’t really any competition on a regular basis in the UK. After seeing lots of top teams fighting it out at i31 and the atmosphere created there with team grudge matches from the high level to the lower levels.

It made me think that there should be a platform for teams to compete on a regular basis. A competition that actually reflects the skill level of teams and is something teams want to actually do well in. One that isn’t tied up with rules and regulations but one that allows teams to just play the games and show who’s better than who.

The ladder format doesn’t lend itself to top teams and doesn’t reflect true skill. A league is only temporary and is inevitably filled with defaults and drop outs as the clans participating fold.

Hello there.

I am Gumpster, Head Admin at CLANDLE (Community Leagues AND Ladders Europe), just wanting to spread the word about this site: http://www.clandle.co.uk

Clandle is better known as CCSSL, a league which has had to be rebuilt from the past that was a good league before a few admins got "hack" happy. The less said about that the better. CCSSL is refreshed, re-named and re-homed to a new site, in which we have teamed up with our partner leagues of CMoHL and CCoDL. CLANDLE has three main games, Medal Of Honor Series, Call Of Duty Series, and Counter Strike Source. We at CLANDLE uphold a few values that we base ourselves on, respect, community feel, and competition. We like to think that most clans can achieve things whether they are a small "unknown" clan, or if they are a big well known outfit, there is seriously something for everyone.

CCSSL (Community Counter Strike Source League) is now entering into Season 8, and we would like to recruit both clans for the new season, and admins. This is a good oppurtunity for the majority of players to "rise to the challenge" and become an admin, and enter the dark and dimsy world of being an Admin (which isn't always a pretty sight, however you do reap the benefits of being an admin). If you are interested in this, then you should know that being an admin, doesnt mean you will be able to sit around and chill, there will be times where we as admins are at the front line of any conflicts, bad decisions, or problems with the league and site and how its run etc. However, there is an up side to being an admin, the fact that you gain support from the league, and being proud when you help clans out in certain problems. There are many positions open at Clandle for any calibure and charisma of person you are. We have a Conflict Admin position open to four people (one for the league and 3 for the ladders), we have match admin positions avaliable (in which you can watch matches for any possible conflicts/problems/cheaters and observe Clandle rules). Being an IRC Captain, where you publish any SourceTV Ips up, match results up, checking new clans with irc channels, and making sure current clans know what time and where there matches are, Senior Admin positions, to input ideas into the league/ladder and site, and a Leagues Advisor, where you work in the interests of building co-operation between "rival" leagues and ladders for the greater good of the Community. There is something for everyone, and if anyone is interested then you should please contact Gumpster at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or "gumpster" on xfire, with your name, age, gaming name, clan, why you want to be an admin, a short paragraph about yourself, any experience, activeness, and what position you are applying for.

For Clans, there is a chance to win prizes (hopefully Season 8 we will deliver prizes on time, as we have had problems in Season 7), for any calibure of clan, and any skill. As long as you are active, and you are a clan with a working website, a working irc channel, and 5 members on your roster with full steam ids, then you have a chance to join our two ladders, and our league. We try our best to accomodate all kinds of clans needs, and that is what we do currently. We have good features that make our season unique with our Two Map Weeks (where you play two maps in one night to make it really interesting) and our new feature which is where it will be the CGS Style week, where you play mr9 and 16k start money. There really is something for everyone. We have a solid map list, with maps for any kind of clan who may not know a map very well, but it gives them a chance to get a "feel" for it. The Season runs for 8 weeks (with an over run week at Week 8), so 7 weeks, and 9 maps. If you cannot play one week, then you can use our Wildcards, or you can reschedule your matches via the reschedule system. There is currently an Invite League, a Premiership, and 3 divisions, plus the Waiting Division. We also have two ladders in place, with the CGS Style ladder, and a normal 5on5 ladder, if these ladders prove a success we will increase the amount of ladders. We also run cups for those clans who dont feel the need to enter the ladders/leagues, or just want one or the other, we have a Seasonly Cup named "The Four Seasons Cup", where each season (Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter) there will be a different prize, and different theme to the cup. We also will be running other cups including an Awp Cup and other specific themed cups. We also bring Community into the equasion, when we have our Fun Cups, where every clan is on the Clandle Teamspeak, and we will go all out for fun. No prizes and 5 simple rules cannot let you down! And if you are clanless or a singular player looking for some real fun, we include a usual end of season Community Fun Night, where we have big matches (like 10v10) and play on unusual maps like ka_soccer.

There is always something going on, and there is always admins to talk to when you have problems. If you dont fancy one thing, there is something else in the future to chose from. We may not be the best league, or the biggest league, or we dont have the big prizes, but we do try and bring the gamers something that THEY want. It is a community site afterall. As ive said in the past, i work for you, not the other way round, all you have to do is say, and things will be sorted as quickly as possible. I hope we can make CLANDLE one of the best leagues in Europe, and hopefully with that sponsorship would flourish. So come join us......

Thanks
Gumpster - Head Admin.

I made a short clip about a CAL match we played yesterday. Each half was played on a different server, both decent servers located in the UK and Netherlands. The movie is not about the match in particular (which we lost), but can give you some amusing insight where CS:S is going with its 'competitive' netcode.

You can download or stream the clip here:

Tomorrow sees the start of CSGN’s journey into Counterstrike Source, and what better way to kick things off than an Open cup with a prize purse worth over £500.

Teams from all over the UK and Europe have secured their place in this competition, with easy recognised names from CS 1.6 making the transition to try their luck in Source for this competition. Can they prove that CS 1.6 players really are better than CS Source players or will they be backhanded down by the Source stalwarts?

Over the next four nights the 32 teams selected will pitch their wits, skills and nerve against each other on de_inferno, hoping to come out the other end as one of the 16 to go on to the second stage.

Read on for the full previews!
