i32 Awards
Posted by ben0 on Sunday, 18 November 2007, 00:10

Welcome to the i32 awards, these are primarily based on my own opinion, some are extremely obvious and not really open to much debate, I did take in a lot of outside opinions and changed a few of my original picks. Anyway without further ado, the i32 awards!

The awards to be given:

MVP of the tournament -
Best (unexpected) team performance -
Worst (unexpected) team performance -
Most places above their seed -
Most places below their seed -
Most over-hyped team -
Most under-hyped team -

You can see who got the awards below:

MVP of the tournament - HenryG

Henry was extremely impressive this LAN and easily one the main reasons MiNT progressed through the likes of fnatic, Henry was a key play-maker and clutcher in his games, it shows how far he has come since the early days when he was just more of a sentry gun.

Congratulations to HenryG who will be receiving a Zboard for his troubles!

Best (unexpected) team performance - TLR

I don't think anybody called these guys to get 4th place in this tournament, taking the 2nd spot out of the UK teams, they didn't have an easy route either, storming through Xcite, Sykotic and Ebuyer. A fantastic achievement, especially since many have called i32 the strongest i-series yet.

Worst (unexpected) team performance - XciteUK

With two of their players previously apart of the strong Zboard team, with a 2nd place at the UK combine and 3rd place at i31 being their last two achievements, I doubt anyone was expecting a 13th-16th finish, and I'm sure the players are extremely disappointed.

Most places above their seed - AyD, Sykotic

AyD

AyD? All your dads? Seeded in pool 25-32, a total mix, not a single really recognised player in sight (Aside from gom8s ofc :p), who would thought in a million years they'd end up finishing in the same positions as XciteUK, Tigit and Anomaly? And above other known teams like Warning, eCK, ctx and myski.

Sykotic

If you looked at all the predictions for the top 8 teams, the ones in the money, I highly doubt Sykotic got a single mention. Starting with a 16-10 loss Salvo, Sykotic stormed though the lower bracket with a 16-1 thrashing over Tigit and a 16-7 win over Infused, as you can see they by no means an easy route, it took the other underdog of the tournament to finally stop them, TLR. So what made the difference?  Personally my money is on Cras, he stepped in a couple of weeks before the LAN and it looks like whatever he did worked, and worked wonders. A big well done to Sykotic.

Most places below their seed - XciteUK, Vision

Vision were seeded 17-24th but didn't make it out of the groups, ouch!

XciteUK had a debateable seeding in the first place, somehow bagging 5th, unfortunately they finished 13-16th as previously mentioned.

Most over-hyped team - Birmingham Salvo

By no fault of their own, Salvo got some serious hype before this; a lot of people expecting a top3 finish, one comment even read:

"Salvo played source for like 2 weeks upto the combine. Now they will be godlike."

Although they did manage to finish 5th in the end, (An incorrect placing I believe, was there a play-off? Ebuyer beat them in the tournament therefore logically they should take 6th and Ebuyer 5th.) On that note, the loss to Ebuyer: a good team don't get me wrong, but Salvo, based on their combine performance, really should have flown past them, very disappointing.

Most under-hyped team - TLR/Sykotic

I've already said a few words about both of these. With Sykotic bypassing their seed by miles, and TLR coming from nowhere and hitting 4th, 2nd in the UK.

Yet neither received any hype, not even as much as a pre-lan interview or even a real mention, which however the likes of *deep breath* Reason Gaming, London MiNT, Ebuyer, XciteUK, Tigit, fnatic, cC, Infused, Coolermasters, ctx, Warning and faxzup.. at the very least, did get.

And that's that! Feel free to debate or add your own awards; Biggest rager? Biggest Drunk?

News? Not really... Awards? Not really. Thinly veiled attempt at ben0 to have a go at xciteuk? Bingo!

Seriously, Vision were the team that finished lower than their seed, so why even mention us for that award?

Good to see the site being put to good use though.
MGz Sun, 18 November 2007 - 00:32:17
or maybe he is saying what a lot are thinking, the xciteuk team were definitly not as good as hyped or atleast what they should have been on paper. vision were seeded 17-24th WHO CARES ABOUT that bad a team lets be honest. even i thought that xciteuk were going to place top 8 atleast ,and i am sure if they had stuck together they would have achieved that at future lans, i think he has commented in a rather nice way compared to what i am sure he wanted to put. Nice write up ben, glad to see that you included teams such as sykotic, they really did deserve a mention.
DrGonzo Sun, 18 November 2007 - 00:38:28
Not disputing that we were disappointing. But we were not the side who finished furthest behind our seed. So why include it?
MGz Sun, 18 November 2007 - 00:41:36
okay i agree , they/you deserve a mention in the "Worst (unexpected) team performance - XciteUK " bracket , but in the most places under seeding wasnt needed.

but yet again, i think peopel only want to read about the top 20 teams anyways
MGz Sun, 18 November 2007 - 00:35:52
oh and i have an awarrd to mention

BEST SPECTATOR - lazygun

he showed the xfx girls how a massage should really be, toped up vodka redbulls for players and cheered on the under dogs in every game. great lad, great spec
layo Sun, 18 November 2007 - 09:53:40
i was going to dispute this but then i realised how classic lazygun is and that he truely is the king
LaZygun Sun, 18 November 2007 - 16:06:56
he he mucho love
ben0 Sun, 18 November 2007 - 00:44:00
As I said privately before, it's not a personal dig at all. I really, really, honestly, don't give enough of flying fuck anymore. Hope that clears that up, and hope you enjoyed the read regardless.
DrGonzo Sun, 18 November 2007 - 01:29:36
ben you probably had to have help with even the most basic of words, so to call it a "read" is probably doing it too much justice.

I just find it amazing that you come down to the event, all decent, then you decide - from nowhere, as it was not planned before the event - to do an awards ceremony simply to say "xciteuk are bad ROFL ROFL ROFL". So much so you don't even get the facts right when you do it.

How about - again - you focus on your own team, pay the players and management from times gone by the money you owe them and generally start sorting your act out rather than waste your time on transparent bollocks like this?
nutsey Sun, 18 November 2007 - 01:53:58
gonzo you called complete control onliners when we won the ED summer cup 2-0 over Edge. Then when we confronted you about it you said "any publicity is good publicity". What ben did to xcite in this post is no worse than what you did to us about 2 months back. You clearly dont like the taste of your own medicine :]
DrGonzo Sun, 18 November 2007 - 01:57:27
Yeah, I also said it about a TOTALLY different CC team, and said "we'll probably see them at i36" and as such was clearly joking.

I have pretty good ties with everyone in CC and it was only you who decided to take it seriously. Odd, as you're not even a real player of theirs.
nutsey Sun, 18 November 2007 - 02:08:57
lmao.

the cC team that played against edge was the same team that played at i32 except techno instead of me. TOTALLY different, hmm yeh hmm. and the other cC team at i31 had 2 from this team, and all members from this team attended i31 with seperate teams and you knew that :]

No it wasnt only me who took it seriously. In fact tucker contacted you first.

"Odd, as you're not even a real player of theirs."
... care to elaborate?? hahahahaa. christ.
DrGonzo Sun, 18 November 2007 - 02:18:41
Didn't you guys use the "we're a totally different team" in defence of you're SOL-ness?

And the fact remains the side that beat Edge etc online was different to the one at that LAN.
fym Sun, 18 November 2007 - 12:42:28
"You clearly dont like the taste of your own medicine :]"

summed it up right there.
MGz Sun, 18 November 2007 - 00:48:29
i attempted to stir it up on msn , but ben refused to take the bait
i was hoping to have something interesting to read
LaZygun Sun, 18 November 2007 - 01:01:33
MGz Sun, 18 November 2007 - 01:06:54
nice reply lazy
layo Sun, 18 November 2007 - 09:56:13
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, that was fucking hilarious for some reason.

Just imagined him on the balcony at i-series about to say something then just not, looking at his vodka and coke and taking a sip.

BEST SPECTATOR - lazygun

radon Sun, 18 November 2007 - 01:50:53
Most of xcite are nice guys, they got excessively hyped before the LAN, which was mainly due to your doing Gonzo. Im not saying this is a bad thing, as that is what a manager is suppose to do in some respects, publicise their team.

But you have to face comments when a team performs badly if you over hype them. You did finish way below your seed, vision did too but they wasn't bigged up nowhere near the ammount you guys were.

You need to stop getting defensive dude, especially over something so trivial as this when you should know your players are good enough to ignore these sort of "awards" and bounce back at the next LAN!
DrGonzo Sun, 18 November 2007 - 02:00:02
I'm not getting defensive about people saying we had a bad LAN. I honestly think some people don't read what anyone says, but just guess, then reply to it.

To summarise I have said the following:

1) Ben has only invented these awards post LAN as a veiled attempt to slate a team because he has an issue with one of the players in it. Pretty much a fact this one.

2) That he hasn't even got his facts right, as the team that finished furthest behind it's seed was Vision.

I'd expect anyone - myself included - to take flak for that, as I did when I was writing the "inside source" despite the fact it said every week it was tongue in cheek.
radon Sun, 18 November 2007 - 02:26:10
If i remember Ben actually opened an enemydown thread and let alot of people choose the results. Even if he only posted it to have a sly dig at xcite, i think i remember 90% of the source commununity had the same answers as him.

You seem to keep going on about vision. No disrespect to the clan but i presume their seeding was just to make up the numbers, for the groups to work effectively. Xcite is a big team, with big players and yes they did crap compared to how they was seeded. You need to comprihend this and stop trying to compare it to a team that could of been any seed from 15th to 30th. Like i stated no disrespect to vision, nice guys but im sure they will agree they arn't on the same level as the likes of xcite etc.

Also you need to understand if xcite had been given a realistic seed, then they wouldn't be in that category of "the worst place compared to their seeding" in the first place. Im not sure whos doing it was to seed them 5th or who had a huge say in it, but i think most of the people at i32 laughed when they saw it. Good players but achieved fuck all as a team before the LAN.

So yes, i do read what you say, i think its you who needs to actually read and understand what you are saying yourself, then realise 90% of it is fabricated bullshit and based on some consipracy theory against ben0.
rossar Sun, 18 November 2007 - 02:29:18
/sat
DrGonzo Sun, 18 November 2007 - 02:35:53
Yes, but when dealing with a FACT - as the original ED post stated - the FACT is it was Vision. Simple as that really. But we can ignore that fact so we can double the amount of times we have a pop at xciteuk.

As for the seedings, they are done on opinion and it is my understanding that the multiplay staff did it this time around.

I have nothing against Ben, spent a lot of time chatting to him at i32. I just can't understand why someone would be bothering themselves with inventing an awards ceremony just to settle some petty vendetta with one player. Even to the length of waiting until the ED thread goes cold before posting it here. You'd have to be stupid to not see it for what it is, as you yourself have pointed out.

radon Sun, 18 November 2007 - 02:33:38

DrGonzo Sun, 18 November 2007 - 02:39:05
Cras is meant to be in the newly proposed Zboard line-up though.

to be honest, a completely pointless "award" thing thats done nothing but point out the obvious and piss people off but fair do's its only a bit of fun.

Although "Best Spectator" should definately be continued, I hope one day to wear this crown by getting as off my tits as I can and puking all over LaZygun
Monkeyware Sun, 18 November 2007 - 10:41:44
I would just like to say all flamming aside that I was awesomely impressed by TLR's performance @ i32. Got some great footage of them too which I'll send to Source Junky as soon as MGz has finished editing it.

Thanks to everyone for attending i32 and making it an awesome event.
Deathrow Sun, 18 November 2007 - 13:08:21
you can get rid the xciteuk and put visioN if you want we really dont care
Deathrow Sun, 18 November 2007 - 13:15:55
To be fair, i think xciteuk should just take it as we have obviously the skill level is different but when i see these awards i think ok we did dire and now we need to prove @ the next event whether it be online or on LAN that we did deserve the 19th seed or w.e i wouldnt take it personally id just take it as something to better or improve next time.
FeralSpirit Sun, 18 November 2007 - 13:57:41
id just say harsh to henryg for ever being described as a 'sentry gun'. he does the same insane play every game =P
tils Sun, 18 November 2007 - 15:06:14
[fact] fattest douche of i32 who still owes me money - ben0

woLf^ Sun, 18 November 2007 - 15:15:20
TLR stole our best unexpected performance award :p but then we werent a team
xciteuk had a bad LAN, i dont see this as much of a dig at them.
pkj Sun, 18 November 2007 - 17:23:40
syKotic was pretty much a mix team, we played together for 2 weeks before i32.

Cras did an awesome job preparing strats for only 2 weeks. He's only just come back to competitive gaming and i think the guy deserves a big mention! Also alex is a monster!

best spectator - LaZygun, the lads a legend!
KingSolomon Sun, 18 November 2007 - 19:00:30
3 players from xcite were in i31 (callisto shivers and the other 1) and they failed. No idea why tils and jafro decided to play with them after doing well at cgs and i31, the i32 result was expected imho.

ben0 is well within his right to have a dig at them, tils and jafro shud be ashamed for leaving him
layo Sun, 18 November 2007 - 20:26:54
your post deserves a big, big flame but i won't.

the reason they left is because of personal and financial problems.
jaFro Sun, 18 November 2007 - 23:38:27
personal finance problems? lolHAHAHA
