Welcome to the i32 awards, these are primarily based on my own opinion, some are extremely obvious and not really open to much debate, I did take in a lot of outside opinions and changed a few of my original picks. Anyway without further ado, the i32 awards!
The awards to be given:
MVP of the tournament -
Best (unexpected) team performance -
Worst (unexpected) team performance -
Most places above their seed -
Most places below their seed -
Most over-hyped team -
Most under-hyped team -
You can see who got the awards below:
MVP of the tournament - HenryG
Henry was extremely impressive this LAN and easily one the main reasons MiNT progressed through the likes of fnatic, Henry was a key play-maker and clutcher in his games, it shows how far he has come since the early days when he was just more of a sentry gun.
Congratulations to HenryG who will be receiving a Zboard for his troubles!
Best (unexpected) team performance - TLR
I don't think anybody called these guys to get 4th place in this tournament, taking the 2nd spot out of the UK teams, they didn't have an easy route either, storming through Xcite, Sykotic and Ebuyer. A fantastic achievement, especially since many have called i32 the strongest i-series yet.
Worst (unexpected) team performance - XciteUK
With two of their players previously apart of the strong Zboard team, with a 2nd place at the UK combine and 3rd place at i31 being their last two achievements, I doubt anyone was expecting a 13th-16th finish, and I'm sure the players are extremely disappointed.
Most places above their seed - AyD, Sykotic
AyD
AyD? All your dads? Seeded in pool 25-32, a total mix, not a single really recognised player in sight (Aside from gom8s ofc :p), who would thought in a million years they'd end up finishing in the same positions as XciteUK, Tigit and Anomaly? And above other known teams like Warning, eCK, ctx and myski.
Sykotic
If you looked at all the predictions for the top 8 teams, the ones in the money, I highly doubt Sykotic got a single mention. Starting with a 16-10 loss Salvo, Sykotic stormed though the lower bracket with a 16-1 thrashing over Tigit and a 16-7 win over Infused, as you can see they by no means an easy route, it took the other underdog of the tournament to finally stop them, TLR. So what made the difference? Personally my money is on Cras, he stepped in a couple of weeks before the LAN and it looks like whatever he did worked, and worked wonders. A big well done to Sykotic.
Most places below their seed - XciteUK, Vision
Vision were seeded 17-24th but didn't make it out of the groups, ouch!
XciteUK had a debateable seeding in the first place, somehow bagging 5th, unfortunately they finished 13-16th as previously mentioned.
Most over-hyped team - Birmingham Salvo
By no fault of their own, Salvo got some serious hype before this; a lot of people expecting a top3 finish, one comment even read:
"Salvo played source for like 2 weeks upto the combine. Now they will be godlike."
Although they did manage to finish 5th in the end, (An incorrect placing I believe, was there a play-off? Ebuyer beat them in the tournament therefore logically they should take 6th and Ebuyer 5th.) On that note, the loss to Ebuyer: a good team don't get me wrong, but Salvo, based on their combine performance, really should have flown past them, very disappointing.
Most under-hyped team - TLR/Sykotic
I've already said a few words about both of these. With Sykotic bypassing their seed by miles, and TLR coming from nowhere and hitting 4th, 2nd in the UK.
Yet neither received any hype, not even as much as a pre-lan interview or even a real mention, which however the likes of *deep breath* Reason Gaming, London MiNT, Ebuyer, XciteUK, Tigit, fnatic, cC, Infused, Coolermasters, ctx, Warning and faxzup.. at the very least, did get.
And that's that! Feel free to debate or add your own awards; Biggest rager? Biggest Drunk?
