Friday Night In - Show 8
Posted by ViniH on Friday, 14 December 2007, 18:21
Last week's show was unfortunately cancelled for various reasons, not least of which was Vini's last minute invitation to a Christmas night out at his new job. It's a shame we didn't do the show, because it was supposed to be our "swan song" on Tigit. In retrospect though it was probably good that it didn't go out, because there was absolutely no preperation. All that, however, is about to change.

ViniH has done back to the drawing board and proceeded to smash it into litle pieces. The result? Friday Night In has been transformed - we're taking the original vision for the show (that listeners saw glimpses of in the first few shows) improving it, and sticking to it without deviation.

READ MORE OR SUFFER MY WRATH!

After a successful spell with Tigit we now have the opportunity to work alongside eSportsFM and bring our listeners a more polished production and better listening experience. Naturally we fully appreciate everything that Tigit did for us. It was a huge opportunity to do something that had never been done before and they fully supported us every step of the way. However we are committed to bringing listeners the best we can offer and to do that sometimes you have to be open to new suggestions, relationships not withstanding.

We did always give it 100% but recognise that some shows were better than others and we're looking now to maintain that consistent level of quality rather than trying to put something, anything out there for the sake of it. With the support of our new station we are confident we can do this and if any listeners have strayed from the path, we hope they'll give this new format another try.So here we are then, the start of something new.

Tonights show will feature a break down of the new show format, a look at the CGS finals and how they've been panning out, a run down of the other big news stories that have been going on since our last show and a preview of our big full-launch show next week.

Tonight's Panel is made up of two of the best UK players in the form of:

George "HudzG" Hoskins (r3, zboard, Reason)
Nat "Tils" Tilsley (TLR, zboard, xciteuk)

If you want to get hold of us through IRC to ask a question or get on the show please jump in #esportsFM. Additionally you can text us on 89892 - start your message with the word eSportsFM.

The show goes live at 8pm GMT and you can listen to us at:

http://www.esportsfm.co.uk/page/?ID=listen

The MP3 of the stream will be available for download or stream within 20 minutes of the end of the show - we'll post a link as soon as it's available.

A note about the controversy at the end of tonight’s show.

We thought the stream had crashed, however as it turns out, the reality was much more interesting. Basically, towards the end of our show my co-host Dr Gonzo got a message from a guy called “TEAMHOST|Dan” which said:

can you wrap it up now, want some music on

Now, it’s a bit odd for someone who is not a member of staff at eSportsFM and has nothing to do with our show, to message us basically asking for us to get off the air. However, Dr Gonzo responded in a perfectly reasonable manner.

we've already said we're in the last ten minutes

This is where “reasonable” gets thrown out of a tenth story window.

show has been **** want some tunes

Not very nice, and the response from Dr Gonzo, a little more stern but still a normal sort of response given the comment.

Yes, and I said it's nearly over so stop being a prick

At this point “TEAMHOST|Dan“ loses the plot.

you'll be over now if you speak to me like that again
lol?
i sponsor the station
dip****
yes
and?
you've done nothing but abuse the show throughout
if you have any input, why agree to it being on
so take it where you want
if you're a "sponsor" act professional and let us have our two hours a week without interruption
"dip****"

This is when the stream “crashed”, or so we thought. Actually what had happened is this “TEAMHOST|Dan” pulled the plug on the stream, literally, he just turned it off.

Quite unprofessional I am sure you agree, but to make matters worse he then went into the public IRC channel #eSportsFM where our listeners interact with the show, and kicked off a massive argument. Basically mouthing off and turning what was a really good evening, into a flame-filled mess.

I would like to point out here that “TEAMHOST|Dan” has absolutely nothing to do with the Friday Night In show or Cadred.org. His only (loose) affiliation with eSportsFM was that he was a sponsor and provided some bandwitdth. I am very pleased to say that this arrangement has now ended, as soon as the management at eSportsFM found out what had happened, they immediately re-routed their stream and politely explained to “TEAMHOST|Dan” that eSportsFM no longer require his sponsorship, due to his extremely unprofessional and childish behaviour.

This same “TEAMHOST|Dan” is also trying to sell game servers to players and teams, including Counter-Strike Source servers. I would like to suggest to any Counter-Strike Source players out there that may be looking for a server that there are many good server providers that value customer service and understand the concept of professionalism, unfortunately TEAMHOST are not one of them, probably best to avoid them altogether.

Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed listening to the pre-launch tester show; it’s good to get little controversies like this out of the way before the full launch next week. Tune in on Friday at 8pm GMT, only on eSportsFM.

Well that doesn't sound like Dan at all. I'm not disputing what you're saying vinih cos there were clearly plenty of witnesses to this. I rented servers from Dan over the last 2 - 3 years and they've been great, as has his service and general attitude.

Maybe he was drunk or something I don't know. Ruining his business off the back of one argument seems unfair, childish though he actions were. We all do stupid shit sometimes...

This is true, but most people realise they've been a tit and adjust their attitude accordingly.

In this case some of the parties involved received a belated apology a day or two later, which for all the world felt like he was saying "I'm not sorry at all, but I realise how bad this makes me look, so I am apologising in the hope that you'll retract your perfectly truthful public statements".
