My take on CS:Promod
Posted by Deathrow on Thursday, 18 October 2007, 18:05
My opinion on the release of CS:Promod and this apparent future of Counter: Strike

Well it has taken a good 2/3 years and the wait is over. Alex Garfield has called it, and I quote, "the future of Counter-Strike". To boast that got me excited and I'm very dissapointed.
The first thing I notice obviously is the gui at the beginning which I think is very good and very stylish. Nearly all the server's are full so i decide to go test my favourite map de_nuke, as I spawn i notice the hud is very clean and i like this a lot, however the map on the top left has my name on and i can see this getting in the way with 5 names around on the map getting in the way and not to mention public play. The buy menu is poor in my honest opinion and little time taken on it. As i leave spawn i begin to bunnyhop and i must say this is well done and i really like how theyve made the bhop as its easy and rather fun.

The muzzle flash is a load of crap... enough said on that i cant believe that have put that in the game do the creators not have eyes and they cant see how poor that is? the AWP is great for scoping in, nice and fast but something does not feel right at all. i pick up an m4 and i cant find any recoil :S:S and the sounds after sound like they was stolen from the metal gear solid 3 cinematics. my POV when crouched looks like my knee cap is trying to take a sneaky look at the enemy and i think this is poor i cant see over half the boxes and for some reason when i crouch i go flying forward. The movement feels way way way too quick and the source movement seems much more smooth. The maps feel empty there is not much to hide behind and play it sneaky which is rather annoying, i for one enjoy hiding behind things for example the forklift at the back off A site on nuke is gone and the site does not have much to hide behind.  At the moment my rating is about 5/10 im still undecided.
I then join the game-zero server and its laggy and im getting less fps than i do on source of course it is a 32 man server but still.... the radar is clustered and i cant have a good game because off the pathetic non needed ready mod, people on public arnt going to read up are they? if people want 16k they can just make a cfg. The guns seems unaccurate to me besides the map my usp went through the head of somebody about 4 times and it didnt hit... the ambient sounds have been replaced by the piss poor job of the gun sounds and then i crashed....

so my final rating is around 2/10 i dont enjoy this i think Alex Garfield bigged this game up and its fallen down and im so glad my team will be playing source tonight.

IMO they should make cspromod for public servers as well.. When you join a server its like a deathmatch but worse.

Damn this 'beta' is so dire.

Baring in mind they didn't program the engine or the mod - they just altered some features...its been a huge let down to me.

WP on CGS picking up CSS, its the future of Counterstike.

FU 1.6 fanboys...your game is dead.
Deathrow Thu, 18 October 2007 - 20:07:15
boffy the 1.6 forums where like yh hopefully this is the death off source.. i laughed ^_^
Butterfly! Thu, 18 October 2007 - 23:26:45
And the funny thing is the 1.6ers will be like yeh but these is a BETA they will be able to work out these 50+ bugs in no time!!11

Maybe by the time they have wife and kids yes

These 1.6ers defend an equally bad beta of CSP to Source, whilst they bashed Source at every oppurtuntity when it first came out.

Anyway, i will keep causing a stir on GotFrag
Deathrow Fri, 19 October 2007 - 17:55:38
you can tell the 1.6ers are desperate when they are defending the thing when source came out wasnt it much better than this?

lol, Insurgency Mod is just a mod from the source engine too, its beta was 20x better, and it was ALOT more work, different guns, models, HUGE maps, different objectives everything.. and they made it in alot less time than CSP too..

Uhh, they've been working on insurgency mod for more then 3 years, with also much more people.. ( about 50 people )

Don't get me wrong, I hate csp as well, but the facts your saying are wrong.
